A marquee event on the Major League Eating (MLE) calendar, the annual Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship challenges eaters to chow down as many Day-Lee Pride gyoza (Japanese potstickers) as possible in 10 minutes. The record, set in 2012 by returning champ Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, is 266 gyoza—that’s about 10 pounds of potstickers! Come find out whether Joey will break his record and retain his title!
Joey’s competition will include last year’s second place winner Matt Stonie (ranked #4 by MLE) and Bob Shoudt (#5). Competing for charity will be the 2012 Nisei Week Queen Emily Michi Iijima Folick and her court.
There is limited seating, but ample standing room will be available. Be sure to swing by early to stake out a prime viewing spot and to check out the pre-show—the Crazy Cuizine “Mid-August Madness” amateur gyoza eating contest will begin at 2:30.
Craving some gyoza yourself? Stop by the food sampling booths and taste a variety of “wild and crazy” gyoza. Spectators can purchase “wild and crazy” Crazy Cuisine gyoza including Pepperoni Pizza Potstickers, Chicken & Waffle Potstickers, Double Trouble Cheeseburger Potstickers, Edamame Mousse Potstickers, and Chipotle BBQ Potstickers. The proceeds will benefit Nisei Week. (Available while supplies last!)
